The one thing that changes how you plan this trip versus Singapore or Bangkok: Japan requires a tourist visa for Philippine passport holders, applied for in advance. Get that sorted first, and the rest of the trip — attractions, food, transit — is genuinely straightforward.

Philippine passport holders need an approved Japan tourist visa before flying. The visa itself is free, but a ₱520 VFS Global service charge applies at a Japan Visa Application Center (JVAC) in Manila, Cebu, or Davao. You'll need a bank certificate, 3–6 months of statements, and a certificate of employment or ITR. Processing takes 5–10 working days — longer during cherry blossom season or Golden Week. Get your visa approved before booking a non-refundable seat sale fare.

✈️ Getting from Kansai Airport into the city
- JR Haruka Express: ~40-60 min to central Osaka
- Nankai Airport Express: similar journey time, cheaper option
- KIX sits on a man-made island — trains are the practical option over taxis
- Buy an ICOCA card at the airport for all local transit
🚇 Getting around the city
- ICOCA card covers subway, JR local lines, and most buses
- Load ¥3,000 (~₱1,140) to comfortably cover a 4-night trip
- Osaka's subway grid is compact — most sights are 1-2 transfers apart
